Born in the Nord-Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Philippe Kisunzu is a Congolese-American philanthropist, entrepreneur, accredited angel investor, mathematician, economist, podcaster of SIMBA Success Essentials, and Managing Partner & CEO of SIMBA Global Startups, LLC.
Philippe has over 35 years of professional expertise in education, financial services, and risk management consulting. Distinctive skills and recognition areas in innovating new solutions across business settings include large-scale data warehousing & mining analytics; software engineering & development; financial forecasting and planning; actuarial analytics for pension plans and property/casualty insurance risk management; psychometric design and development of assessment instruments; credit risk scorecards design and development; and market research & segmentation analytics.
Highly skilled in teaching & research in mathematics education at institutions of higher learning including Northern Illinois University; the University of Texas; the University of Arizona; the University of Illinois at Chicago; Université Adventiste du Burundi at Bujumbura, Burundi; and Université Adventiste d’Haïti at Port-au-Prince, Haïti. Philippe is currently an active investor in real estate and equity markets, a lifetime member of the American Association of Individual Investors (AAII), and an active member of accredited angel investors of the Angel Capital Association (ACA).
As Managing Partner and CEO of SIMBA Global Startups, Dr. Philippe Kisunzu manages the strategic trajectory of the firm’s Angel Investing & Mentorship portfolio companies in five distinct SME technology-driven sectors: Education, Healthcare, Renewable Resources (e.g., energy, water, & foodstuffs), Agribusiness, and Information & Communication Technologies (ICT). His objective is to fund and invest in indigenous visionary entrepreneurs who share his vision and commitment to launching and nurturing entrepreneurial ecosystems in sub-Saharan Africa. His ultimate dream is to help transform and empower human lives through the creation of scalable, sustainable, and inclusive employment opportunities in sub-Saharan Africa.
Philippe Kisunzu earned his Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences & Mathematics Education from Northern Illinois University; M.S. in Mathematics & Operations Research from California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), Pomona, CA; and M.A. in Economics & Econometrics from Washington University, in St Louis, MO. In the prior early years, Philippe earned a B.A. in Mathematics & Business Administration from Andrews University, Berrien Springs, MI. Dr. Philippe Kisunzu is fluent in French and Swahili. He resides in the Washington D.C. Metro area.
